What states does Top Driver serve?
Top Driver operates state-approved driving schools across Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The largest footprint is in Illinois (state-approved by the Illinois Secretary of State) with classroom locations across Chicago's Northwest Suburbs, the western suburbs, and downstate. Ohio and Wisconsin operations are licensed by the Ohio BMV and the Wisconsin DOT respectively. Use the location finder to find the closest classroom to you.
What programs does Top Driver offer?
Top Driver offers four main program categories: (1) Teen driver education in Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin, including classroom + Behind-The-Wheel packages; (2) Adult driver education for new and returning drivers, including the Illinois 6-Hour Online Adult Drivers Ed Course and the Ohio Adult Class D course; (3) the Specialized Program for students with ADHD and Executive Functioning Disorders, designed for learners who benefit from smaller class sizes and individualized pacing; and (4) Illinois Cooperative Road Test administration where eligible.
How long has Top Driver been in business?
Top Driver was founded in 2003 and has trained more than 250,000 new drivers across the Midwest. Top Driver is the largest private driving school in Illinois with 22+ years of continuous operation, and was one of the first Illinois driving schools approved as a Cooperative Road Test provider by the Illinois Secretary of State.
Is Top Driver a state-approved driving school?
Yes. Top Driver is approved by the Illinois Secretary of State, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to provide state-required driver education. Every Top Driver instructor is state-licensed and passes a background check before being cleared to work with students. All training vehicles are equipped with dashcams.
How do I enroll?
Pick your closest Top Driver classroom from the location finder above, then choose the package that fits your needs (Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond for Illinois teen programs; the 6-Hour Online course for Illinois adults; Class D for Ohio teens). Does Top Driver offer free home pickup for Behind-The-Wheel lessons?
Yes — most Top Driver locations offer complimentary home pickup and dropoff for Behind-The-Wheel sessions for students living within the location's pickup ZIP codes. Each location's page lists the specific ZIPs eligible for free pickup. Students outside those ZIPs can be picked up at one of the partner high schools where Top Driver runs pickup routes, or meet their instructor at the classroom.
What is Driver Intelligence™?
Driver Intelligence™ is Top Driver's proprietary driver education curriculum, developed over 22+ years of teaching new and experienced drivers. It covers state-required driver education plus advanced topics: hazard prediction, decision-making frameworks under stress, defensive driving techniques, distracted-driving awareness, and post-license skill maintenance. The curriculum exceeds state minimum requirements in Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin, and forms the basis of every Top Driver classroom and Behind-The-Wheel program.
