In conjunction with National Teen Driver Safety Week, Top Driver hosted a free webinar titled Illinois Driver Ed 101: What Every Parent Needs to Know About Teen Driving in Illinois.
During the webinar, officials from Top Driver covered a variety of topics including:
- The history, results, and phases of the Illinois Graduated Driver Licensing program
- Illinois educational requirements to get a driver’s license both in classroom and behind the wheel
- How parents can be positive role models in driver education
- Tips for at-home driving practice
Two esteemed guest speakers also presented during the webinar — Margaret Pearson, the Regional Coordinator of the Illinois Secretary of State Organ/Tissue Donor program and Bryan Kovach from State Farm Insurance.
Why Organ Donation is So Important
Margaret Pearson discussed the reasons why organ and tissue donation are so crucial when signing up for a driver’s license. For instance, did you know that there are currently more than 110,000 people waiting for life-saving organ transplants in the United States? Approximately 4,000 of those are Illinois residents.
She also explained that a recent law, which took effect in 2018, allowed minors aged 16 and 17 to register to be an organ donor, with parental consent. To become one of the hundreds of thousands of minor-aged donors or to find more information, visit their website: www.lifegoeson.com.
All About Auto Insurance
During the webinar, Bryan Kovach from State Farm Insurance gave an inside look at auto insurance coverage options. He discussed how the State of Illinois requires liability coverage in order to legally operate a motor vehicle as well as some of the factors that go into the amount of insurance one could pay. These factors include, but are not limited to:
- Driving history
- Credit history
- Multi-Line discounts (e.g. combination home & auto insurance)
- Maintaining ‘accident-free’ status
- Good student discounts
- “Steer Clear” discounts
Finally, the last half hour of the webinar was an open floor Q&A discussion. Participants were free to ask questions about any of the topics covered during the webinar including payment programs for Top Driver’s online courses, details regarding program curriculum, and more.
