Little Known Traffic Laws

Little Known Traffic Laws

Typically when you’re getting pulled over, you know you’ve been speeding, are not wearing your seatbelt, or have somehow committed a moving violation. However, if you’re getting pulled over and you have no idea why, take note! These little known traffic violations could be to blame. Dirty License Plate

An obstructed license plate ticket will cost you between $50 and $100 in most states, and can be doled out for something as little as a dirty license plate. Be sure to wipe down your plates after driving on heavily muddy or dirty roadways. Another pesky thing that can make you a target for obstructed license plates are plate frames put on by the dealership. When you get your car home, check that your frame isn’t covering any information on your plate (even if it’s just state mottos or information!).

Eating While Driving

Eating while driving, although it may seem innocent and all-too-common, takes one of your hands off the wheel and keeps you from giving 100% of your attention to the road. It is uncommon that a policeman would cite you for this folly, but if you seem particularly distracted you should get it together! Law enforcement is absolutely able to ticket you for this foul.

One-Handed Driving

Anything – I repeat, anything – that takes one of your hands off the wheel is technically illegal. That means petting your dog in the passenger seat, talking on your cell phone, adjusting your GPS, or surfing radio stations, along with many other offenses. Be mindful of what you’re allowing to distract your hands from their primary job: steering your vehicle.
